How we remove ear wax safely

Your clinician selects the safest method based on your individual assessment. All methods use clinical-grade Australian-made equipment.

Microsuction

Gentle low-vacuum suction — no water. The safer choice for patients with sensitive ears, hearing aids, perforated eardrums or history of ear infections.

Ear Irrigation

Precise low-pressure water-based flushing. Suitable for healthy ear canals without contraindications to water methods.

Direct Visualisation

Our Specialist Ear Care Nurse uses a head-worn binocular microscope with LED illumination — the same magnification class used by Australian ENT specialists. True depth perception inside the ear canal.

What to expect at your appointment

  1. Clinical assessment — our Specialist Ear Care Nurse examines your ears and reviews your relevant medical history to confirm the safest treatment pathway.
  2. Informed consent — we explain the procedure, expected outcomes and any small risks, and obtain your written consent before starting.
  3. Treatment — the wax is removed using the technique best suited to your ears. Most appointments take 20–30 minutes.
  4. Post-treatment check — we re-examine the ear canal and eardrum to confirm clean, healthy results.
  5. Doctor review if needed — if anything during your assessment or treatment needs review by a doctor, we can arrange a GP consultation at our clinic, subject to availability.

Your $89 fee covers everything: assessment, procedure, and post-treatment check.

Common questions about ear care

Our flat price is $89 per appointment — this covers your clinical assessment, the wax removal procedure itself, and a post-treatment check. Standalone ear-care clinics in Melbourne typically charge $150–$200 for the same service.

Most appointments take 20–30 minutes, including assessment, procedure, and post-treatment check.

No. Microsuction is generally well-tolerated. You will hear a soft suction sound during the procedure, but it should not be painful. Tell your clinician immediately if you experience any discomfort and they will adjust.

No referral is needed. You can book directly via HotDoc or call reception on (03) 9408 8800.

Yes — we provide ear care for children, with parental consent. Our nurse will choose the gentlest appropriate method for your child.

Microsuction uses a low-vacuum suction device — no water — and is the safer choice for ears with a history of infection, perforation, grommets, or hearing aids. Irrigation uses a gentle low-pressure water flow to flush wax out and is suitable for healthy ear canals without contraindications. Our clinician will recommend the most appropriate method during your assessment.

We do not recommend either. Ear candling has no proven clinical benefit and carries burn and obstruction risks. Cotton buds push wax further into the canal and can damage the eardrum. Professional removal is safer and more effective.
